Caracals have large triangular ears with tufts of fur on top. They are larger than your typical house cat. The caracat breed is a hybrid breed that was developed by crossing a caracal with a domestic cat. Jungle Cats are wild cats native to Egypt and Asia. They have been spotted along the Nile River Valley. They have tall, pointed ears with small black hair tufts at the tips, much like a lynx. While some are smaller than a Caracal, Jungle Cats still outrank domestic cats when it comes to size. The Chausie breed began when a Jungle Cat mated with a domestic cat. Caracats and Chausies can be compared to other hybrid cat breeds, such as Bengals and Savannahs. Because Caracats are a new breed and are so rare, at different catteries all over the world, Caracats have been paired with Chausies, Bengals, Abyssinians (for caracal color), and Maine Coons (for size). Once a breeder feels confident with the genetic diversity within the caracat breed, we will begin seeing more caracat to caracat pairings. All wild-domestic hybrid breeds began with breeders selecting what they deem to be the most suitable pairings for optimal health, look, and temperment. While caracals are known for being very hissy, these kittens have a much more domestic temperment. They love to snuggle in bed with me.
